For the most part, I consider myself a social and cultural historian of 19th & 20th century Europe. My research interests center on the nature of public discourse in southern Europe, particularly in newspapers, magazines, and popular novels, during the 'fin de siglo' period, from about 1870-1930. I explore the impact of popular discourse on politics and social issues in turn-of-the-century Spain. My current research stretches that interest to include popular discourse on sexuality as it pertains to national identity formation.
